Trying to set up newly purchased Surface Pro tablet to connect to my desktop running Win XP Pro.
My setup: Desktop: Win XP Pro w/SP3 installed Tablet: Win 8 Pro (64-bit) version I have a DSL modem (ACTIONTEC) that has Wi-Fi enabled (used it to connect my old laptop to internet). Also have a Netgear 5-port switch 10/100 Mbps; part number FS605 v3. I am now on my third attempt to try to connect the tablet to the desktop. Between attempts I have reset the tablet to factory defaults to start over. Currently the tablet is showing 'connected' for the Wi-Fi connection I call ACTIONTEC. It is set to 'Yes, turn on sharing and connect to device' When I right click on that connection and click on View connection properties', I get the 'ACTIONTEC Wireless Network Properties' dialog screen that shows the following: Security type: No authentication (Open) Encryption type: WEP Network security key: (hidden, but it is correct) On the Network screen I see two devices: Network Infrastructure (1): Actiontec DSL router Computer (1): Home_tablet If I click on the refresh network icon, it scans, but does not find the desktop. I'd like to receive the step-by-step instructions as to how to get this set up. The 'Windows 8 Inside Out' book hasn't helped in this situation. Thanks, Comments are closed.
